Signing in to LogMeIn for the First Time

This article goes over the steps for setting up and logging into LogMeIn for the first time.

Remote work is on the rise with more offices offering this flexible perk. In fact there are times when remote work is a necessity (bad weather, MTA shutdown, pandemic). While there are a lot of options for getting your team able to work remotely, one of the easiest ways we recommend is using LogMeIn.

LogMeIn allows users to take control over their work computers from a computer at a different location. This means you can be on your home computer and moving the mouse and using the programs on your work computer in real time. All you need are internet connections for both the work computer and your home computer, and a LogMeIn license. (If you are a Valiant client and require a license, follow this link to open a ticket.)

If you are using LogMeIn for the first time, there are a few steps to getting you set up. This guide is based on the idea that your company already signed you up for a LogMeIn account. If that has not happened yet, that is the first step, and see above paragraph to open a ticket.

Obtaining your login credentials

You will receive an email invitation for LogMeIn asking you to create an account if you do not already have one. If you believe you have an account, initiate a password reset at THIS LINK.

Click on the link in the email to go to the account creation page.

The incoming email will look similar to this.

From there, you will be prompted to create a password. Follow our secure password guidelines when creating this account.

Verify your email at the top and create a strong password.

Enter your work login credentials

Once logged in, you will see the list of computers that you have access to. When you click on your computer name, it will bring you to a login page.

You can see the computer here is accessible and online.

From there, you will need to enter the log in user name and password for your work computer. Before you click login, don’t forget to change the “Log in to” selection to the name of your company. Click the drop down and select your company name.

This prompt is for the login you usually use for logging in at the office. “Your company” is only an example and will instead be the name of the business.

Download and install LogMeIn

On your first log in, you will be prompted to download and install the LogMeIn client.

If you are using a Windows machine:

  • LogMeInClient.exe will download automatically.
  • If it doesn’t immediately begin installing, double click the file.
  • Follow the prompts for installation.
  • When complete, open the program and go onto the next step.

If you are using MacOS:

  • A zip file named LogMeInClient.zip will download.
  • Open the zip file and click the LogMeInClient.app to run the install.
  • Follow the prompts for installation.
  • When complete, open the program and go onto the next step.

Log in and use your work computer remotely

After opening the LogMeIn application, you may be prompted once more for your computer credentials (again, these are the credentials you normally use to log into your work computer). Enter the credentials to connect.

You will now be able to access your work computer and network from your current location.

Troubleshooting

If you have any issues, try these quick checks before opening a ticket.

  • If you haven’t restarted your computer in a while, try that. Restarting can fix a number of miscellaneous problems and is the first step in troubleshooting the majority of issues.
  • If that doesn’t solve the issue, then be sure that your home internet working and that your home computer is properly connected. You can also test the speed of that connection at speedtest.net or another testing site.
  • Make sure that caps lock isn’t on when entering your password as the password will be case sensitive.

If none of those quick checks resolve the issue, contact your IT support to open a ticket.
